Festivals at Tonbridge Castle

1950-1999

 

The castle grounds were officially opened with lots of officials, on the 23rd May 1900 . The castle was opened by Earl Stanhope .

The opening of Tonbridge Castle  ground meant  that festivals like Saint George's day could take place.

Saint George's takes place sometime in April in the castle grounds every year. The Festivals consist of scouts, brownies, rainbows, guides and many more. community clubs parading around Tonbridge Castle holding their flags Saint George's day takes a lot preparations and people celebrate it in remembrance of the tale of George and the Dragon. The castle is also used for other Festivals or events such as promenade concerts he held by schools or pre-school  playgroups running stalls. The castle also has a summer Carnival which is held in Tonbridge castle grounds. The summer carnival raises money for the lions club. Another special festival was when the castle ground was open to the public in 1989. The castle chamber in the mansion house adjoining Tonbridge castle gatehouse is licensed for civil marriages.
